How to make moneyWorking in this industry for a few years, this is among the questions I hear the most: “how to make money with games?”. And you’re wrong if you think I only hear this from people working on developing a game – a lot of people in my personal circle don’t understand how a game can make money.
And yes, games make money. In 2018 the gaming industry generated US$109.8 billion. In 2019 it was even bigger – US$120.1 billion – a 10% growth. If you think about the movie industry making $41.7 billion in 2018 (and that includes both small movies and big Hollywood blockbusters), we’re talking about a sizeable figure, specially after the pandemic.
And then comes the question: how to make money from games? Unfortunately I don’t have a ready answer to give you. Game Monetization is not a cake recipe, where you follow the steps and have an end result, unfortunately. Making money from a game depends on a number of factors – a mobile game will monetize differently than a computer game, a casual game will monetize differently than an MMO, and so on.
We don’t have an exact recipe, but we do have some ways to figure out the best way to earn money from games.

Analyze your audience.
What’s your game? What platform will it be released for? Furthermore, it is important to know: what is your target audience? These factors are crucial for you to be able to see the best way to monetize your game.
Research your competitors
